Centre Philosophy

At Fairbairn Road Kindergarten we believe that all children should be treated as unique individuals and nurtured to promote their overall well being.  The educational team provide a flexible program, which caters for the children’s age and interests, and provides a positive environment to promote active learning and development through play. We embed STEM related opportunities to allow learning to occur both in and out of context which may include a science experience led by our educators or caring for Henry our lizard.

We acknowledge the importance of ongoing learning and creative expression and believe a child’s potential is supported by an engaging environment that includes play, exploration, expressing thoughts and ideas, practicing skills, problem solving, promoting independence, role modeling, routines, security and social interactions. We reflect on the program as a team constantly as we aim to help children develop and process information about themselves and their environment.

We believe that children will learn and develop to their full potential when they’re free from criticism, judgment and bias. We will encourage and praise all children’s efforts and exploration in a learning environment to build on their confidence and self-worth. We will also encourage children to explore and play at their own pace moving freely through the environment.

We aim to provide an Emergent Curriculum that builds upon the interests of children. We value the early years of a child’s life and understand in this time children develop self-esteem, a sense of belonging and a sense of self-worth – the essential skills that form the foundation on which all learning is built.

To support our belief, we will provide a program that is flexible and adaptable to meet children’s daily and developmental needs. We will provide experiences based on children’s interests and ideas, and will also encourage and guide the interests and ideas with conversations, activities and further exploration.

We believe children have the right to freely explore, create and imagine in both indoor and outdoor environments of the program. We will provide interest based activities and play areas of equal value across the program. This will be supported by an indoor/outdoor program.

At Fairbairn Road Kindergarten we are committed to giving all children the right to feel safe at all times, we have a strong understanding of the code of ethics and abide by the United Nations Convention of the rights of the child. At Fairbairn Road Kindergarten we continue to promote the cultural safety of Aboriginal children at our Kindergarten, the cultural safety of children from cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds and children with disabilities.

We encourage a strong partnership between families and educators and embrace the involvement and communication from families. We believe educators and parents need to work together to create children’s success in learning and growing.  We will encourage and promote open communication between educators, parents or guardians. We will listen to parents and actively seek information from them. We believe education based on a strong relationship between the educator, child/children and parents creates a wonderful and supportive environment for learning.

We have a strong commitment to working with schools within the community to support children’s school readiness and transition to school. We will encourage and promote open communication between families and educators to help determine and support children’s readiness for school, and the schools readiness for the children in our care.

We would do this by continuing to work within the community, visiting schools and being a part of a transition to school partnership program. We will also engage and reflect on children’s learning and progress to consistently support their skill development. Transition reports will be sent to schools with educators contacting schools individually to pass on information to assist in children’s transition in their new school environment.

Sustainable practices and respect for the environment are embedded at our Kindergarten; this is integrated into the program and reflected daily through teachers role modelling and having discussions with children.
