Centre Philosophy
Thornhill Drive Kindergarten and Children’s Centre acknowledges and respects that it is situated on the land of the traditional owners and custodians of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
At Thornhill Drive Kindergarten and Children’s Centre, each child is respected as a unique person with his or her own interests, strengths, needs, experiences and abilities. The program we offer is play based with developmentally appropriate learning opportunities which are child initiated and extended with intentional teaching. It is constantly evaluated and changing and developing as the children’s needs and interest’s change.
As described in “The Early Years Learning Framework”, our Kindergarten is a place where children feel that they belong, they can be who they’re and that allows them to develop into who they will become.
All Educators understand the importance of assisting the children to develop a strong sense of identity, allowing them to feel connected and contribute to their world, gain a strong sense of wellbeing, become confident and involved learners and become effective communicators.
We allow the children to challenge themselves physical and mentally, and to take considered risks within set boundaries to build their sense of achievement.
We embrace the cultural diversity of the children and their families, which is positively reflected in the program. It is important that families feel welcomed and supported at our centre. We believe in the rights of all children, regardless of gender, cultural identity, family background and religious beliefs.
Thornhill Drive is committed to the rights of all children to feel safe and be safe at all times, including the cultural safety of Aboriginal children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and children with disabilities.
We constantly observe and document the children’s play and learning outcomes which are used to plan further experiences for the children.
The Kindergarten believes in networking and embracing the community.
