Overview
Centre Philosophy
At Kingsville Kindergarten we:
- acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Tribe of the Kulin nation. We offer our respect to the elders of these traditional lands, and through them to all the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- recognise each child is unique
- acknowledge and respect diversity
- believe young children learn best through play
The learning experiences children are engaged in encourage development of the whole child. A play based curriculum allows for independent choices and individual development. The curriculum, which is based on the National and Victorian Early Years Learning Frameworks is underpinned by the philosophy of “Belonging, Being and Becoming” which:
- instills a sense of belonging to promote confidence and acceptance
- allows children to be, to engage and practice, revisit and internalise skills and knowledge
- to become – allowing children to take supported risks as they extend themselves
The learning environment will:
- be inspiring, fun, inclusive, accessible and safe
- be challenging and evolving
- encourage respect for the natural world
Staff will work together to deliver high quality programs and will:
- identify and support the needs and interests of individual children and seek opportunities for intentional teaching
- plan environments that allow for an emergent curriculum which enables children to direct their own learning
- promote reciprocal relationships and build a sense of rights and responsibilities
- ensure children feel safe, secure and supported at all times
- promote the cultural safety of Aboriginal children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and children with disabilities
- foster enjoyment and aptitudes for learning such as persistence, curiosity and creativity
- support children to become effective in their verbal and non-verbal communication
- develop an awareness of sustainable practices
- communicate with families about their child’s learning and development
- welcome and encourage family and community involvement
