Overview

Centre Philosophy

We welcome all families and acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land and future generations; the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin nations on whose land we learn and play.

We believe the primary aim of education at the kindergarten level is to develop the skills necessary for children to become lifelong learners with an enquiring mind who will be able to take their place in society as responsible and caring citizens.

We are committed to the rights of all children to feel safe, and be safe at all times. We do this by promoting a warm, friendly and caring environment where building relationships with our children and families is of utmost importance and by embracing the diversity of our local community. We value the uniqueness of each child and their families regardless of race, religion, culture and strengths. Educators take responsibility to provide opportunities for children with all needs to be included into the program on an ongoing basis.

We believe that children learn through play. ‘Play can expand children’s thinking and enhance their desire to know and learn’ (Being, Belonging and Becoming pg15). We value children gaining independence skills over the year and promote this throughout the program. Educators take into account the interests, milestones, needs and skills of all children as well as encourage them to foster their skills across all developmental areas. Intentional teaching is an integral component of the educational program and educators will use this in both incidental and planned experiences/discussions. The play-based program remains flexible to accommodate the needs of the group and the individual interests of the children as well as empowering them to take control of their own learning. Educators facilitate respect for the environment through educating and modelling sustainable practices in our daily lives at kindergarten with the children.

Families are encouraged to contribute and provide feedback regarding the educational program. We believe by engaging with our local community throughout the year, the children and families will be able to access other services and build on their knowledge of the local community.
